Rich Mattson & the Northstars
June 29 – 2nd Street Stage 6-8 p.m.
Northwoods Rock / Folk Rock
Hailing from Sparta, way up in the great north woods of Minnesota, Rich Mattson and Germaine Gemberling have been writing, recording and performing together since 2010. Their 6 albums have received rave reviews and high praise from the indie rock/Americana/jangle-core crowd, and their latest, “Out There,” was elected “Best Album of 2022” by the Northland Reader. With influences ranging from The Byrds, Neil Young, Petty, X and Link Wray, the group’s original “cosmic folk” has cycled back to a more roots-rocking Americana sound in recent years. The Northstars perform all around Minnesota and beyond and have been invited to share the stage with such notable acts as the Minus 5, the Jayhawks, Drivin’ and Cryin’ and Trampled By Turtles. Somewhat of a Minnesota music staple, Mattson is well known for his songwriting and outstanding showmanship as well as his work with literally thousands of artists at his Sparta Sound recording studio. Major sponsors are TruStar Federal Credit Union, Monika’s Quilt and Yarn Shop and R.D. Offutt Farms. Band sponsor June 29 is Lamb Weston/RDO. Arrive at 5 for the social hour, sponsored by Gartner Real Estate Team, and remember to bring your own chair.
