Timothy Pinkerton, violinist, and Sarah Carlson, pianist, will perform from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at Calvary Lutheran Church. Timothy Pinkerton is a homeschooled sophomore from Bemidji. He began playing the violin at age six, joined the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra (BSO) at age 10 and took the position of principal second violin at age 13. He performed as a soloist during the BSO’s 2020 Summer Pop-Up Concerts and performed Schindler’s List with the BSO in February 2021. He currently works as a music instructor, teaching both violin and piano at Headwaters School of Music and the Arts in Bemidji. Timothy is scheduled to perform Max Bruch’s exhilarating Violin Concerto No. 1 with the BSO and Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra in the spring of 2022. He has also studied piano, voice, mandolin and guitar the past several years. He participated as a member of the Headwaters Youth Orchestra, currently serves as concertmaster of the Bemidji High School Symphony Orchestra and frequently performs as a soloist with the BHS Chamber Orchestra. Timothy received first place in the high school division of the 2021 Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist competition and has been a part of the MMEA Minnesota All-State Orchestra for two academic years as a first violin. He was a recipient of the Region 2 Arts Council Young Artist Grant in 2020 and participated in Bravo! North, a music festival for advanced string players and pianists, in 2016. Sarah Carlson received her Master of Music in organ performance from the University of Iowa and her Bachelor of Music from St. Olaf College. During the fall of 2009, she performed harpsichord keyboard concertos by J.S. Bach at Bemidji State University. Prior to coming to Bemidji, she was Director of Music at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Darlington, S.C. She was also an Adjunct Professor of Music at Coker College in Hartsville, S.C., accompanist for the Coker Singers and head of the Piano Division’s Preparatory School of Music. She is currently Director of Music Ministry at First Lutheran Church in Bemidji. Covid guidelines will be followed and there will be no social time.
